The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, today (Saturday, June 4, 2005) inaugurated the Saifee Hospital - a landmark gift of Sultan ul Bohra, 52nd Dai el Fatimi, Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb to Mumbai city - amidst the presence of dignitaries and government officials from across India and 43 countries, including the U.A.E. Goodwill and congratulatory messages poured in from world leaders while the inauguration ceremony was watched live by over more than one million community members across 800 centers around the world.

Dr. Syedna extended a warm welcome to the Prime Minister and the distinguished guests and thanked them. He prayed for peace, progress and prosperity for India and the world. Dr. Manmohan Singh said “the Saifee Hospital is a role model for medical institutions at other levels”. “The Dawoodi Bohra Community in our times has been a pace setter in this direction and is a true example of unity in diversity in this great ancient land of India” applauded the Prime Minister.

After a brief tour of the hospital accompanied by Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, the Prime Minister commended the noble endeavor. “It is not only a modern facility; I am truly touched by the philanthropic spirit of Dr. Syedna and the Dawoodi Bohra Community, which stands before us in the form of bricks and mortar with high credentials of charity”, he said.

The 14-level, 259 Bed, ultra-modern, multi-specialty Saifee Hospital built by Dr. Burhanuddin is named after his late father Dr. Syedna Taher Saifuddin of revered memory. Located across the Charni Road, the sprawling Hospital building constructed over an area of 4,500 square meters can be seen from a distance outlined against the Mumbai skyline and stands in testimony of the unflinching commitment of Dr. Syedna in spreading the noble cause of philanthropy and service to mankind.

Paying tribute to Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin ‘s father of revered memory, Dr. Manmohan Singh said “I pay tribute to the late Dr. Syedna Taher Saifuddin Saheb in whose memory we are dedicating this magnificent hospital. His spirit of humanity and compassion has been inherited by Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb, who is respected all over the world.”

The Saifee Hospital, built over 4 years, is not only equipped with state-of-the-art technology, offering its healing touch to the needy, but is infused with the spirit of humane care, and adds a new dimension to the architectural ambience of the city of Mumbai.

The best lives are those that are not only replete with personal achievements, but those that enrich and enhance the lives of those around them. Clearly, one of the noblest in the stream of Dr. Syedna’s endeavors is this memorable hospital whose gates have been thrown wide open by the Prime Minister today.

“May Allah alleviate the afflictions of all those who come to this Hospital seeking remedy and free them from their pain” These solemn words of Dr. Syedna’s prayers sums up his vision, concern and commitment for the health and well being of humanity at large.

Dr. Syedna’s unswerving philanthropic contributions and assistance to innumerable medical institutions and human welfare activities across the globe have ensured a remedial change in many a life. His teachings and messages of love and comfort beamed across the weak and the afflicted influence the homes and hearts of the faithful.

PS: I have most humbly written the above quick impromptu report from the live video cast this morning , extracts from which have been sent to the UAE press for publication. The words of the PM in praise of Bawa Shafeeq Maula Mun’em Aaqa e Girami Maulana Mohammed Burhanuddin were reverberating in my ears and therefore with ajz and qusoor. I reiterate that the PM speech was very comprehensive and the above report can do no justice to the words of praise and appreciation showered by the Honorable Prime Minister on Aqa Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Maula T.U.S. His Aaliwaqar Shehzadas and on Maula’s taa’be’een, Mumineen.

Pray Allah grant Maula sehat aafiyat malabis fakhera zafiyah taa yaum al qiyama.

Wa tawwil Elahi Umr Burhane di nekal; Lazi Haza Min Ghurrish Sho’ou Ne afanina”
